In the Federal Pre-Budget Submission, the CLMA asks the Canadian government to continue to acknowledge and support live music as an integral component of the country’s economic recovery.

The Canadian Live Music Association’s 7th Annual General Meeting was held on Tuesday, September 21st. The AGM was an opportunity to take a look back at one of the most difficult years in the history of Canada's live music sector as well as welcome incoming board leadership.

The study is designed to quantify the impact and representation of the live music community in Canada, and examine the challenges and barriers that impede IBPOC participation within the industry. The study’s findings and recommendations will inform the development of an industry-wide action plan to implement more inclusive practices nationwide.

Dear Chief Medical Officer Moore,

We are writing on behalf of Ontario’s tourism and hospitality industry to express our concern with the government’s plan to pause the province’s exit from the Roadmap to Reopen. The sectors we represent across all regions of Ontario include hotels and accommodations, resorts, restaurants, food and beverage vendors, live events, attractions, recreation, transport operators, and culture and heritage

While Canadians and most businesses will feel like their lives are returning to normal this summer and fall, our sector reflects a very different picture. The punishing impact of closures on the hardest hit sectors, like live music, remains critical: capacity restrictions and social distancing requirements have forced many venues to remain shuttered to prevent even greater financial loss; decisions to cancel concerts, tours and festivals had to be made earlier this year; and regular business travel will be slow to return as Canadians and corporations cautiously resume face-to-face business activity perhaps starting this fall or in early 2022.

The Canadian Live Music Association (CLMA) expresses its sincere thanks to the Government of Canada and Minister of Canadian Heritage Steven Guilbeault for today’s announcement regarding the rollout of $50M in new COVID-19-related funding to support the live music sector. FACTOR and Musicaction will be launching this new support for the live music sector in the coming days.

More recently, Ontario launched its 3-step Roadmap to Reopening and, in early June 2021, our coalition united to seek clarity and regulatory fairness.

While we were gladdened to have Step 2 modifications that enabled our businesses to prepare for reopening, as other sectors have been afforded for months, we write today to draw your attention to three areas that require urgent attention in the short- and long-term and, most urgently, request a clear and consistent response from the Province of Ontario.

Today, the Coalition of Hardest Hit Businesses (CHHB) is calling on the federal government to protect travel and tourism businesses and their employees in Canada, as the crucial Canada Emergency Wage Subsidy (CEWS) and Canada Emergency Rent Subsidy (CERS) programs wind down.

As part of the Coalition of Hardest Hit Businesses, we urgently need new member data to keep the pressure on Government to provide continued and tailored support for Canada's hardest hit sectors.
