The CLMA Welcomes Minister Steven Guilbeault, Building a World-Class Live Music Ecosystem Together

Dear Minister Guilbeault,

Congratulations on your reappointment as Minister of Canadian Culture and Identity. On behalf of the Canadian Live Music Association (CLMA), we look forward to continuing our work with you to unlock the full potential of Canada’s live music sector—the touring infrastructure that brings artists to stages in every corner of the country.

As Canada moves toward long-term economic resilience and national renewal, live music must be recognized as a key driver of economic, cultural, and social progress. An essential industry that creates jobs and strengthens communities, the sector amplifies Canada’s voice on the global stage.

Our Hear and Now study (2025) shows the live music sector contributed $10.92 billion to GDP, supported over 101,600 full-time jobs, and generated $3.73 billion in tax revenues last year alone. Nearly 20 million attendees participated in live music events across Canada in 2023, stimulating local economies and supporting businesses nationwide—thanks to major concerts, festivals, independent venues and all live music activity.

At the heart of this ecosystem are Canadian artists—the creative engines powering growth, innovation, and international recognition. Their work fuels entire value chains and reflects the diversity and vitality of our country. Investing in the infrastructure that supports live performance is a direct investment in Canada's creative economy, talent development, tourism industry, and the strength of our national identity.

Now is the time to build a world-class live music ecosystem—one that champions Canadian artists, attracts global audiences, and positions Canada as a premier destination for live music. We are ready to work with you to make this vision a reality.

Thank you for your continued leadership. Let’s build something extraordinary—together.
