Free training and procedure tools give live music organizers practical resources to prepare for, respond to, and learn from weather disruption.
For Immediate Release

Toronto, Canada
The Canadian Live Music Association (CLMA) today released the final resources in its Climate Contingency Roadmap, completing the free, sector-specific toolkit first announced on October 1 alongside the national report, ‘Sound Check: Climate Risk and Resilience in Canada’s Live Music Sector.’ The CLMA will host a national virtual town hall introducing the resources on November 26.
The CLMA has announced the town hall on November 26 at 1pm ET for CLMA members and live music community to learn about the findings and how to use the toolkit directly from the researchers and partners. Those interested can register for the session.
The Sound Check report found that live music in Canada has become a climate-exposed sector, but the systems around it have not yet adapted. The burden is falling disproportionately on individual organizers, even though the risks reach tourism, employment, public safety, and community wellbeing. With projections pointing to more intense heat, worsening fire and smoke risk, and heavier rainfall, organizers are being asked to manage greater exposure with increasingly constrained resources.
The toolkit was created to help the sector respond by developing clear, usable approaches for monitoring conditions, making decisions, communicating, and responding when weather affects their event. Organized in four phases (Assess, Plan, Implement, and Improve), it gives live music professionals practical tools they can use and adapt to their own events, capacity, and budgets.
“With this release, we have a robust, end-to-end toolkit for live music stakeholders of any size. These are usable, actionable tools including a guide for weather-specific procedures, training frameworks for staff, and preparedness templates for partners and vendors,” said Maddy Oliver, Interim Executive Director of the CLMA. “We're grateful to TD Bank Group (TD) for supporting this work and helping make climate preparedness more accessible.”
Released today:
Weather Procedure Guides: Sample weather-specific procedures to support event preparedness and response.
Training Pack: Resources to help staff recognize weather-related risks early, understand their roles, and act quickly, safely, and consistently, including exercises that help teams practise weather-related roles, decisions, and response actions.
Partner Readiness Guide: A guide to defining expectations and opportunities for partner involvement in climate adaptation and preparedness.
Idea Bank: Quick access to weather preparedness ideas for different live music event situations.
“For more than 20 years, TD has supported music initiatives that help bring people together through live music. Behind those experiences are people and organizations working to make them possible. As extreme weather creates new challenges, practical tools can help them better plan and prepare for disruptions. We’re proud to support the Canadian Live Music Association in making these resources available across Canada,” said Adrienne Maniezzo, Manager, Community Giving & Engagement, TD.
About the Canadian Live Music Association
The Canadian Live Music Association (CLMA) is the industry association representing the businesses and individuals who make live music happen in Canada. Our membership comprises agents, venues, festivals, promoters, conferences, ticketers and event tech, and live music suppliers from coast to coast to coast.
In 2023 alone, the live music industry contributed nearly $11B to Canada’s GDP, with its largest market being Ontario. Music tourism is a thriving force growing annually, and music tourists spend three times more than typical ones. The CLMA works to entrench live music’s economic, cultural, and social value and to create the conditions for concerts to thrive.
