The CLMA Launches National Survey to Measure Climate Impacts and Build Sector Resilience
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Ottawa, ON - February 4, 2026
The Canadian Live Music Association (CLMA) has launched a national survey assessing how extreme weather and climate-related disruptions are affecting live music events across Canada.
Wildfires, floods, severe storms, and extreme heat, among other phenomena, are increasingly disrupting concerts and festivals – particularly outdoor events. As climate unpredictability grows, so do the operational, financial, and safety challenges faced by venues, promoters, festivals, and artists.
Through this survey, CLMA aims to collect real-world data from live music operators to quantify the scope and impact of climate-related disruptions on planning, costs, insurance, staffing, audience safety, and overall event viability.
Survey findings will directly inform the development of CLMA’s Climate Contingency Roadmap – a practical, sector-specific suite of tools designed to help live music operators anticipate, plan for, and respond to climate disruptions. The roadmap will be the most important climate adaptation effort the industry has ever undertaken, and will include resources such as climate preparedness and site selection tools, insurance backgrounders, and emergency services primers.
“Climate-related disruptions are no longer a distant threat – they are a growing operational constraint for live music across the country,” said Erin Benjamin, President & CEO, CLMA. “This survey is about grounding future solutions in lived experience, ensuring the tools we develop reflect the real challenges operators are facing on the ground.”
The survey is confidential and designed to reflect the realities of live music organizations working under tight budgets, limited resources, and increasing climate uncertainty. Responses from festivals, venues, promoters, and other live music stakeholders will help ensure the Climate Contingency Roadmap is practical, accessible, and responsive to sector needs.
All live music operators across Canada are encouraged to participate.

This project is supported by Ontario Creates and Creative BC and the Province of British Columbia.
